Mesolithic Age

The Middle Stone Age, or the Mesolithic Age(10,000-8000 BCE): The Mesolithic or Middle stone age was a period of transition between the Palaeolithic and the Neolithic Age. This period lasted from around 10,000 to 8000 BCE. we come to know about the Mesolithic people from three sources, namely, tools, cave and rock paintings and burial sites.

The Mesolithic period, also referred to as the Middle Stone Age,witnessed environmental changes like the melting of glaciers and their replacement by thick forests.

  • This period stretches from 12000 years ago till about 10,000 years ago.
  • The people of this period used small tools called microliths, such as sprearheads and arrow heads.
  • Probably,agriculture was also practiced to some extent.
  • Domestication of animals, most important of dogs,started.
